12 Tips for 12 Hours in Bratislava

Wenn man in Wien wohnt, hat man das Glück innerhalb von wenigen Stunden in Bratislava, Prag, München und Budapest zu sein. Wenn die Temperaturen langsam steigen, musste ich die Chance einfach für einen kleinen Tagesausflug nach Bratislava nutzen. Zwar war ich dort schon zwei Mal, aber wirklich erinnern konnte ich mich leider nicht mehr. Insgesamt war ich 12 Stunden unterwegs, was nicht nach viel Zeit klingt, aber trotzdem haben wir eigentlich sehr viel gesehen und erlebt.

Von Wien Hauptbahnhof kostet die Zugfahrt nur 16 Euro Hin- und Retour (alle Infos dazu findet ihr hier). Das Ticket gilt sogar 3 Tage und für den ersten Tag sind die Öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel in Bratislava gratis mit dabei. Vom Bahnhof in Bratislava dann einfach mit dem Bus oder der Straßenbahn in die Innenstadt und los gehts!

1. Ausblick genießen auf der Burg

Ein kleiner Anstieg auf die Burg und ihr werdet mit einer richtig schönen Aussicht belohnt. Perfekt um ein paar Erinnerungsfotos zu machen, denn ihr seht  über die ganze Stadt. Wenn ihr dann Richtung Altstadt wieder runterspaziert, seid ihr auch gleich bei der Fussgängerzone und somit in der Altstadt.

2. Altstadtspaziergang

Das macht mir eigentlich am meistens Spaß wenn ich in einer neuen Stadt bin: einfach durch die Fussgängerzonen der Altstadt spazieren. Mich nicht entscheiden zu können, in welches Cafe ich jetzt gehen soll um einen Kaffee am Vormittag zu trinken und die Menschen zu beobachten, die draußen vorbeigehen. Das gehört für mich beim Reisen einfach dazu. In Bratislava einfach von der  Oper durch die Fussgängerzone bis zum Schlosshof.

3. Shoppen im Einkaufszentrum

Entweder mit dem Bus, oder einfach zu Fuss an der Donau entlang spazieren zum Eurovea Einkaufszentrum. Dort gibt es viele Shops, die es bei uns in Österreich nicht gibt, das musste ich sofort nutzen. Also wurde zuerst mal eine Runde geshoppt, unter anderem mein neuer Hut. Außerdem gibt es dort auch einen Tesco. Die Sachen sind dort auch um einiges günstiger als bei uns, also es lohnt sich!

4. Serbisches Kriegsdenkmal

Weiter ging es quer durch die Stadt durch die St. Elisabeth Basilika und dem Slovensky rozhlas (dem Rundfunkgebäude) auf den Hügel von Bratislava zum Slavin, dem serbischen Kriegsdenkmal von Bratislava. Die Aussicht von da oben ist einfach fantastisch, sogar noch besser als die von der Burg. Es war richtig ruhig dort oben und man konnte die Aussicht wirklich genießen. Für diejenigen unter euch, die nicht zu Fuss raufgehen wollen: keine Sorge, es gibt auch einen Bus!

5. Bauernmarkt

Noch etwas, was ich wirklich gerne mache, wenn ich in einer neuen Stadt bin: ich schaue am Bauernmarkt vorbei. Das ganze frische Obst, Gemüse und Blumen, die Einheimischen beim Einkaufen und Handeln beobachten und die Verkäufer die Tomaten und Erdbeeren abwiegen. Das gehört einfach dazu für mich.

6. Durch heruntergekommende Viertel spazieren

Die Gegend rund um das Slovensky rozhlas ist nicht die schönste. Alles erinnert sehr an Ostblock, irgendwie heruntergekommen und somit etwas besonderes. Wie schon in Belgrad, spaziere ich wirklich gern durch diese Viertel.

7. Eisessen am Nachmittag

Wenn die Temperaturen steigen, muss ein Eis am Nachmittag einfach sein. Ich bin einer der wenigen Menschen die Zitroneneis über alles lieben – je saurer desto besser. Geht es noch jemanden hier so? Bei dem Platz vor der Oper gibt es ein süßes kleines Eisgeschäft (auf der linken Seite wenn man kurz vor der Oper steht) mit wirklich leckeren Eis.

8. Am Flussufer entspannen wie die Einheimischen

Danach mit dem Eis zum Ufer der Donau und dort auf das Wasser schauen. Wenn Einheimische dort sind, heißt das ihr macht etwas richtig. Es ist wirklich sehr entspannend.

9. Kesselgulasch mit Semmelknödel im Pivnica u Kozla

Seit ich in Belgrad Kesselgulasch gegessen habe, hatte ich richtig Heißhunger auf mehr. Deswegen konnte ich nicht anders als Semmelknödel mit Gulasch zu bestellen. Das Restaurant kann ich euch nur empfehlen: es liegt zwar mitten in der Altstadt aber ist trotzdem sehr günstig und WIRKLICH gut. Das Fleisch war so weich und die Sauce ein Traum. Auch die Semmelknödel waren richtig lecker. Die Portionen sind verhältnismäßig groß, ich war schon sehr hungrig, deswegen habe ich alles aufgegessen. Auch die Rippchen waren ausgezeichnet, auch hier war das Fleisch wirklich weich, man musste es nur leicht mit der Gabel vom Knochen schieben. Im Sommer könnt ihr draußen sitzen und während dem Essen die Altstadt beobachten. Aber auch drinnen ist es wirklich sehr gemütlich eingerichtet. Also schaut mal vorbei, es ist auch auf TripAdvisor richtig gut bewertet.

10. Straßenmusikern zuhören

Wenn ihr öfter meine Videos anschaut, ist euch bestimmt etwas aufgefallen: mindestens ein Straßenmusiker kommt eigentlich fast immer vor. Ich bleibe eigentlich wirklich oft stehen und höre ihnen zu. 11. Ins Café Maximilian gehen

Als ich das erste Mal in Bratislava war, zeigte mir meine Tante damals als erstes das Café Maximilian. Es liegt mitten in der Altstadt und ist wirklich nett um draußen einen Kaffee zu trinken und Bratislava zu genießen.

12. Den Kurzurlaub genießen

Und am alleeallerwichtigsten: genießt die Zeit! Lasst euch treiben, hetzt nicht von einem Hotspot zum anderen, sondern schlendert einfach mal durch die Straßen. Und wenn ihr für mich Tipps habt, dann immer her damit 🙂

And when the summer starts, I had  to use the chance to make a short day trip to Bratislava. A was there two times before, but couldn’t remember a lot. So I made a day trip and had 12 hours. Sounds really short, but you can do a lot in this time.

From the mainstation in Vienna the train costs 16 Euros (including  the train back in vienna). The ticket leasts for 3 days and includes also the ticket for the public transports on the first day. From the station in Bratislava you take the bus or tram to the city center and start your day trip there. All infos to the ticket you get here

1. Enjoy the view at the castle

Hike a small hill and enjoy the view. This place is perfect for some memory-pictures, you can see the whole city from up there. When you walk down the hill in direction to the city center, you are directly at the pedestrian zone and so in the historic city center of Bratislava.

2. Walk through the historic city center

That’s the part I enjoy the most when I’m in a new city: stroll through the pedestrian area, choose a café and drink a coffee and watching people. Take a look at the shops and enjoy the time. I really need this when I’m traveling. In Bratislava you can take a walk fro the opera building till the castle courtyard.

3. Shopping at the mall

With the bus or by foot along the bank of the Danube you get to the Eurovea Shopping Mall. There are so many shops we don’t have in Austria (for example Tesco) , so we had to spend some time there. Shopping in Bratislava is much cheaper than in Austria, so it’s worth it.

4. Serbian War Monument

When you walk through the city you pass the St. Elisabeth church, the Slovensky rozhlas (the broadcasting building) and then you come to the hill (or mountain) with the Slavin, the serbian war monument. From up there you have a fantastic view, even better then from the castle. It was really quiet and so you can enjoy it. When you don’t want to hike up the hill, don’t worry: there is a also a bus.

5. Farmers market

And again this is something I love to do when I’m in a new city: taking a look at the farmers market. With the fresh fruits and vegetables and the pretty flowers, watching the locals when their shopping and dealing.

6. Walking through shabby neighboorhoods

The area around the solvensky rozhlas is not the prettiest. Everything reminds you at eastern blocs, everything is damaged, so it is something special. Like in Belgrade, I really enjoy walking thourgh such areas.

7. Ice-cream at the afternoon

When it’t summer or spring, I have to have ice-cream at the afternoon. I’m one of the rarely people who loves lemon-ice-cream. And I love it when it’s REALLY sour. At the place in front of the opera (at the left side) there is a ice-cream parlor with really good ice-cream.

8. Relaxing at the bank with the locals

After the ice-cream you can walk along the bank of the Danube and relax. When locals are there too, you know you make something right and you are not like a normal „tourist“.

9. Kettle goulash with bread dumpling at the Picnica u Kozla

Since I tried kettle goulash at Belgrade, I had really ravenous appetite for more of it. Because of that I had to order bread dumpling with goulash in Bratislava. I can highly recommend you the Picnica u Kozla: it’s located in the middle of the city center and it’s really cheap and REALLY good. The meat was so soft and the sauce was really delicious. Also the bread dumpling was really tasty. The portions are pretty gib, and I was really hungry (so I ate up the whole thing). And also the ribs were delicious, also here the meat was so soft, that you only had to push them down from the bones with the fork. In summer you can sit outside and watch the historic city center while eating. And also in the inside it’s really cozy. So take a look, it’s also high recommended at TripAdvisor.

10. Listening to buskers

As you watch my videos, you maybe realized something: at least one time I always film a busker. When they’re good, I always take a rest and listen to them. 11. Coffee at the Café Maximilian

When I was in Bratislava the first time, my aunt showed my the Café Maximilian. It’s located in the city center and it’s the perfect place to have a coffee outside at the pedestrian street and enjoy Bratislava.

12. Enjoy the short vacation
