{:de}{:de}Wisst ihr wofür das meiste Geld bei mir auf Reisen drauf geht? Essen und Kaffee. Ich kann einfach nicht anders als von einem Café ins nächste zu spazieren, den besten Cappuccino der Stadt zu suchen und bin immer auf der Suche nach coolen Streetfood. In Budapest war ich, obwohl ich insgesamt „nur“ 1,5 Tage hier war (am ersten Tag kam ich erst am Nachmittag an und war izu müde um etwas zu unternehmen), in insgesamt 7 Lokalen! Die perfekte Gelegenheit um einen Budapest Food Guide zu schreiben. Die folgenden Lokale sind nicht vegan, aber es gibt auf jeder Karte vegane Alternativen, durch die ich mich durchprobiert habe.
Solinfo Café
Auf der Suche nach dem Szimpla Kert, bin ich über das Solinfo Café gestoßen, dass so nett und gemütlich ausgesehen hat, dass ich spontan beschlossen habe hier zu frühstücken. Die Karte ist recht umfangreich und nach Nachfrage bekam ich sogar ein Sojajoghurt statt normalen Joghurt. Ich entschied mich für ein Müsli mit Joghurt und frischen Früchten und einen Espresso um mal munter zu werden. Die Kellner sind hier sehr sehr aufmerksam, die Stimmung wirklich nett und es ist schön ruhig. Wenn zudem noch viele Einheimische sitzen, weiß man das man etwas cooles gefunden hat.

Mazel Tov
Nachdem mir Lina vor ein paar Wochen vom israelischen Lokal Mazel Tov hier in Budapest erzählt hat, konnte ich es kaum erwarten selbst dort zu essen. Ihr wisst, ihr liebe israelisches Essen und bin immer auf der Suche nach Lokalen die auf Fotos auch etwas hermachen. Das Mazel Tov zählt definitiv dazu. Praktischerweise lag es wirklich in Gehweite von meinem Hotel entfernt und schon beim Betreten musste ich staunen. Die ganze Atmosphäre ist so Tel Aviv und cool.

Hilda
Nur ein paar Minuten von der Kettenbrücke entfernt ist Hilda’s. Eigentlich wollte ich ins A la Maison, dort muss man aber reservieren. Gleich nebenan gibt es aber eine super Alternative. Ich habe Hilda kennen gelernt, eine wirklich symphatische Frau, die überall mit anpackt und nebenbei mit ihrer kleinen Tochter spielt. Dazu hat das Lokal das süßeste Wlan-Passwort: „Weloveyou16“. Aber zum wichtigsten: das Essen! Man wartet etwas länger, aber dafür zahlt es sich aus. Der hausgemachte Eistee ist unbedingt ein Muss, nicht zu süß, wirklich lecker und dank der Goji-Beeren die im Tee schwimmen auch noch ein Hingucker. Dazu habe ich mich für den Veggie Wrap und Süßkartoffel-Chips mit hausgemachter Tomaten-Salsa entschieden. Richtig große Portionen, dafür ist der etwas teurere Preis auch gerechtfertigt. Das ganze Lokal ist sehr französisch und gemütlich. Sogar das WC ist einen Besuch wert, es gibt dort drin sogar einen kleinen Schminktisch zum Make-up ausbessern und einen Stoffkleiderhänger für die Jacke. Es sind solche Kleinigkeiten, mit denen ein Lokal so tollen in Erinnerung bleibt.

The Sweet by Vintage Garden
Das Vintage Garden habe ich irgendwo in den Tiefen des Internets gefunden und mit nur im Hinterkopf gemerkt. Als ich nach dem Frühstück durch das jüdische Viertel spaziert bin, stand ich plötzlich vor einem Café, das schon von draußen unglaublich süß aussah. Vor der Tür ein Schild: „Cakes are always a good idea“. Ich musste schon lachen und als ich näher trat, sah ich ganz klein den Namen des Cafés: Sweets by Vintage Garden. Nicht gesucht, aber trotzdem gefunden. Wenn man die Türe nur einen Spalt aufmacht, kommt einen schon der herrliche Duft von Keksen, Kaffee und Kuchen entgegen und ich brauchte eine Ewigkeit mich zu entscheiden, was die Stimmung der Kellnerin nicht gerade hebte. Das ist auch der einzige Kritikpunkt am Vintage Garden: ungeduldiges Personal. Aber der vegane Peanutbutter-Cookie hat alles wieder rausgehauen. Zudem gibt es noch jede Menge Macarons, Torten, Brownies, Cinnemonrolls und viel viel mehr. Wenn ihr am Nachmittag (oder eigentlich egal zu welcher Tageszeit) Lust auf etwas süßes habt, dann ist das Vintage Garden der Place to be!

Goa Mama
Eigentlich war ich wirklich satt und bis oben hin voll mit Koffein, aber als ich das Goa Mama auf der anderen Straßenseite sah, musste ich einfach reinschauen. Ich hab dieses Ding, dass wenn ein Lokal schöne Lampen hat, ich sofort davon begeistert bin. Im Goa Mama gibt es mehr als nur schöne Lampen, denn das Café hat gleich nebenan ein wirklich schönes Interior-Geschäft und wenn ich nicht mit dem Zug hier wäre und meine Tasche eh schon schwer genug, hätte ich hier bestimmt das ein oder andere Stück für meine neue Wohnung gekauft. Ein Grund mehr im Sommer während des Umzugs wiederzukommen! Ansonsten ist das Café wirklich sehr gemütlich, die Kellner sehr hilfsbereit und der Cappucchino (sogar mit Sojamilch) wirklich lecker.

Kurtoskalacs
Ich kenne das eigentlich unter „Baumkuchen“ und esse es normalerweise nur um die Weihnachtszeit am Christkindlmarkt. In Budapest bekommt man Kurtoskalacs das ganze Jahr über und an vielen Ecken. Es besteht eigentlich nur aus Mehl, Öl, Wasser, Zucker und wird dann je nach belieben mit Schokolade, Zimt, Mandeln, Kokosflocken oder Nüssen bestreut. Ich habe Zimt und Mandeln genommen und nachdem ich mir zum ersten Mal die Zunge verbrannt habe, weil ich es einfach nicht erwarten konnte abzubeißen, war es wirklich wirklich lecker.

Arioso Café & Interior
Das beste kommt bekanntlich zum Schluss, deshalb hab ich mir das süßeste Café auch bis jetzt aufgespart: das Arioso. Eigentlich hatte ich wirklich keine Lust noch einen Kaffee zu trinken, aber dann sah ich es. „Pumpkin Spice Latte – Daily Offer“. DAILY! Ich habe die Pumpkin-Spice-Latte-Saison bei Starbucks heuer völlig verpasst und war schon ganz traurig bis zum Herbst warten zu müssen. Aber hier in Budapest gibt es einen Ort, wo ihr ihn jeden Tag bekommen könnt! Und dazu schmeckt er noch viel viel besser als der von Starbucks, weil hier der Sirup nicht so süß ist. Im ganzen Lokal hängen Lichterketten von der Decke, und mir fällt kein passenderes Wort für dieses Café ein als bezaubernd (so kitschig das auch klingt). Das Personal ist richtig richtig nett und hat für mich sogar Platz für meine Fotos gemacht. Und hab ich schon das beste erwähnt: PSL. JEDEN. TAG. DAS. GANZE. JAHR.

Brody Studios
Okay einen letzten Geheimtipp hab ich noch für euch und geheim trifft es perfekt. Vor meiner Reise hab ich auf Instagram ein Foto entdeckt und dachte es wäre ein Café und hab versucht herauszufinden wo das ist. Vergebens, nirgends war ein Name zu finden. Also habe ich einen Screenshot davon gemacht und meine Rezeptionistin gleich bei der Ankunft gefragt ob sie weiß wo das sein könnte. Nach ein bisschen Recherche hatten sie und ihre Kolleginnen tatsächlich einen Tipp für mich. Sie waren sich ziemlich sicher, dass das das Brody House ist. Gleich am nächsten Tag in der Früh machte ich mich auf die Suche nach dem Brody House. Da mal reinzukommen ist gar nicht so einfach, man muss unten klingeln und sich erklären. Ich hab die Rezeptionistin einfach vollgequasselt bis sie die Tür öffnete. Oben angekommen sagte sie mir, dass das am Bild nicht das Brody House sondern die Brody Studios sind. Ein exklusiver Club hier in Budapest, in den man normalerweise nur reinkommt, wenn man Mitglied ist. Ich merkte mir ihren Namen vom Namensschild bedankte mich. Pünktlich als Brody Studios öffnete war ich dort und klingelte an der Tür. Wieder musste ich mich erklären und wieder kam ich irgendwie hinein. Drinnen erklärte mir die Hostess, dass man wirklich nur reinkommt, wenn man Mitglied ist. Doch kurze Zeit später saß ich dann tatsächlich mit einem Getränk, dass ohne Bestellung einfach gebracht wurde in dem alten Palais mit Wohnzimmeratmosphäre. Die Cocktails sind der Wahnsinn, aber vor allem ist es die Atmosphäre die es mir wirklich angetan hat. In den verschiedenen Räumen (oder eher Räumlichkeiten, weil es wirklich ein altes Palais ist), war einmal eine Geburtstagsparty, im nächsten ein Konzert, in einem anderen war ein Klavier und ein Kamin und im Hauptsaal ein Gitarrist und eine Sängerin. Die Wände sind wirklich alt und teilweise schaut es etwas heruntergekommen aus, die ausgewählten Möbel, die Lichter und die Musik machen das ganze aber richtig edel. Ihr könnt euch gar nicht vorstellen wie cool ich mich fühlte dort drin zu sitzen und das alles genießen zu können. Wenn ihr also irgendwie die Möglichkeit habt in die Brody Studios zu kommen, dann tut es!

In general it looks like this: I’m walking from one coffeeshop to the next one, always searching for the best cappuccino in town or looking for some cool places with local streetfood. Altough I was only for 1,5 days in Budapest (on my first day I was way too exhausted), I tried 7 restaurants/cafés/bars in that time. So this is the perfect opportunity for me to write a Budapest food guide. The following restaurant/cafés/bars are not completly vegan, but they do have a vegan choice on ther menu, which I always chose.
Solinfo Café
I was on my way to have breakfast at Szimpla Kert, but when I was standing in front of the Solinfo Café, I had to change my decision. It looked so cozy and cute, that I had to give it a go. The menu is quiet big and after asking for a vegan choice I got a soja joghurt instead of a normal diary joghurt with fresh fruits and an espresso to wake up a little bit. The waiters were really friendly and attentive, the atmosphere is relaxed and laid-back. Plus: if you are the only tourist in middle of locals, you know you found a great breakfast spot.

Mazel Tov
After Lina from Glittery Peonies told me a few weeks ago from this israelian restaurant Mazel Tov in Budapest, I couldn’t wait to go there for lunch. As you know, I REALLY love israelian food and I’m always looking for restaurants which look good on pictures too. The Mazel Tov is one of those great places. When entering the restaurant, I felt like sitting in Tel Aviv again. The best thing: it was really close to my hotel.

Hilda
Only a few minutes to go by foot from the Chain bridge to the Saint Stephan basilica is Only a few minutes to go by foot from the Chain bridge to the Saint Stephan basilica is „Hilda`s Actually I wanted to try A la Maison, but the restaurant was fully booked. No problem for me, the Hilda’s next door looked interesting too. I met Hilda, a really friendly woman, which helps everywhere and plays with her little daughter every free minute. The restaurant has the cutes Wifi-Passwort („Weloveyou16“), but let’s talk about the most important thing: the food. I had to wait a little while, but it was worth it. You have to try the homemade icetea, which is not that sweet and with the swimming goji-berries a real eye-catcher. I chose the veggie-wrap (vegan!) with sweetpotatoe crisps and homemade tomato salsa. The prices a little bit higher, but the dishes are really big. The whole restaurant has this cool french-chic and also very cozy. Even the toilet is cool, they have a own mirror with the perfect light to check you make-up and the cutest coat-hangers – but its those bits and bobs which takes a normal restaurant to the next level.

The Sweet by Vintage Garden
I fond the Vintage Garden somewhere on Pinterest quiet a while ago. After having breakfast in the jewish district I suddenly stand in front of a really cute coffeeshop and the sign said „Cakes are always a good idea“. I had to laugh and when I came closer, a little extra sign said „„Sweets by Vintage Garden“„. When I opened the door, the first thing I realized was the incredible smell of cookies, coffee and cake. It took a while for me to decide what I want and this is the only point deduction from this cute coffeeshop: the waitres was really annoying and impatient. But after trying the first bite of the peanutbutter-cookie I forget my anger. They also have macarons, pies, cakes, brownies, cinnemonrolls and much more.

Goa Mama
Actually I was really full with caffein, but when I saw the Goa Mama on the other side of the street I had to give it a try. I have this thing that I’m totally into coffeeshops or restaurants with cool lights or lamps. The Goa Mama has more then beautiful lamps – next to the coffeeshop is a whole interior-shop. Unfortunately my suitcase was already really heavy, but I think I have to come back to buy some bits and bobs for my new flat. One reason more to come back to Budapest! To come back to the coffeeshop: really cozy, really friendly waiters and the soya-cappuccino was also really good.

Kurtoskalacs
I know Kurtoskalacs as „Baumkuchen“ and I have it always around christmas time at the christmas markets. In Budapest you get Kurtoskalacs all year long as streetfood. It consists of flour, water, oil and sugar. Then you can choose between chocolate, cinnamon, almonds, cocos, cacao or nuts. I took cinnemon and cacao and after I burned my tongue at the first bite (I could’t wait as usual), it was really delicious.

Arioso Café & Interior
Saving the best till last: The cutest coffeeshop in Budapest is the Arioso. Two things made me go inside: millions of fairy lights haging from the seeling. And the sign at the door which said „Pumpkin Spice Latte – Daily offer“. DAILY! I missed the starbucks-PSL-season this year and was really sad to wait till automn again. But here in Budapest is a place where you can get it every day. All year long. The best thing: it tasts much better then at Starbucks and is much cheaper. The best word to describe the Arioso is „enchanting“ – I know it’s cheesy. But with the fairy lights, the friendly staff and all the flowers it’s really the cutest coffeeshop in Budapest. And did I mention: Pumpkin Spice Latte. Every. Day. All. Year. Long.

Brody Studios
Okay, here is my last secret tip and „secret“ discribes it perfect. Before traveling to Budapest I found on Pinterest a pictures of a place, which looked like a really cool café. I couldn’t find a name or adress, but I took a screenshot and showed it to the receptionist of my hotel. After searching a while and asking her colleagues, they had a tip for me. They told me that this place is at Brody house – a hotel in the area of the palace district. On the next morning I was in this area and spontanely tried to get in the Brody House, which isn’t that easy because there is only a tiny sign and you have to ask if you are allowed to come inside. I just chattered on the receptionist, until she just sayed I can come in. Altough the Brody House looks really cool, I was at the wrong place – she told me that I have to go to Brody Studios – an exclusive club in Budapest, where you can only get in if you are a member or you are the guest of a member. I remembered the name of the receptionist of Brody House and when Brody Studios opened that evening at 6 p.m. I was there and asked nicely if it was possible to take a look inside. The hostess explained that I have to be a member, but after telling her that the girl at the receptionist of Brody House told me this morning that it’s okay. A few minutes I was sitting in the coolest bar of Budapest, in a really old palace and a really handsome waiter just gave me something to drink, without ordering it. The cocktails are amazing too, but it’s the atmosphere which makes this place so cool. It feels like you’re sitting in your (really stylish) living room and every room is decorated differently. In one was a private, secret concert, in another one a lady celebrated her birthday with, another one was the piano-room with a cozy fireplace and in the main room, the room I found on Pinterest, a guitarist played his own little concert. The walls are really old and sometimes it looks a little shabby, but with carefully selected furnitor, the lights, the music and the fireplaces this places is also really elegant and cool. If you have the chance to get a look inside, you should definitly give it a go!
