Checking in: 1001 nights in Ma’In – the jordan oasis

Das Rattern einer Shisha, der Geruch von Tabak, das Grillenzirben und Nasr erzählt die Geschichte von 1001 Nacht unter dem Sternenhimmel. Ich könnte mir keinen besseren Abschluss für meine Jordanienreise vorstellen. Der Koffer steht halb gepackt im Zimmer und langsam überkommt mich die traurige Wahrheit – morgen ist mein #jordanadventure schon wieder zu Ende.

Das beste kommt bekanntlich zum Schluss und so war es auch bei meinem Trip quer durch Jordanien. Ein Ort war schöner als der andere – von der hektischen Hauptstadt, bis zur leblosen Landschaft am Toten Meer haben wir wirklich fast alles gesehen, aber in Ma’In hat es mir am allerbesten gefallen. In einem Tal, gleich neben dem Toten Meer, ist dort nämlich eine richtige Oase wie man sie nur aus Filmen kennt. Ich fühlte mich dort wie Jasmin aus Aladin höchstpersönlich.

Thermalwasser und heiße Wasserfälle, viele bunte Blumen und sehr sehr grün – nachdem man tagelang in „toter“ Landschaft, ohne einem Fleckchen Grün war, ist es hier plötzlich etwas ganz anderes und etwas ganz Besonderes. Es ist unglaublich ruhig und ich hatte sofort ein Gefühl der Tiefentspanntheit. Obwohl ich die Tage davor am Strand des Toten Meeres verbracht habe und auch dort nicht viel gemacht habe, war das hier ein neues Level.

Evason Ma’In Hot Springs & Six Senses Spa Hotel

Vielleicht liegt es an den unglaublich gemütlichen Betten des Evason Ma’In Hot Springs & Six Senses Spa Hotel, dem einzigen Hotel im Tal, in dem wir übernachtet haben. Vielleicht ist es auch das viele dunkle Holz, der orientalische Flair mit vielen Kerzen und Laternen, die Gabe des Personals zu wissen was ich will, bevor ich es überhaupt selbst weiß oder es ist tatsächlich das Wasser. Wahrscheinlich eine Mischung aus allem. Die Fahrt dorthin ist nichts für sensible Mägen, aber ist man erstmal in der Oase angekommen ist alles andere plötzlich vergessen und alle Sorgen sind wie weggeblasen. Kurz gesagt: meine Vorstellung von 1001 Nacht in einem Hotel verpackt.

Obwohl ich keine Frühaufsteherin bin, zieht es mich beim Sonnenaufgang aus dem Bett und noch vor dem Frühstück starte ich meine Entdeckungstour. Ich spaziere durch den kleinen Dschungel, bleib stehen und atme tief ein und aus. So stell ich mir das Paradies vor. Mit dem Rauschen der Wasserfälle im Ohr ist man in wenigen Minuten beim „öffentlichen Schwimmbad“, sprich genau unter den Wasserfällen. Das Wasser dampft und ich halte vorsichtig einen Zeh hinein. Brennheiß! Trotzdem klettere ich die rutschige Treppe neben dem Wasserfall hinaus und für ein paar Sekunden lass ich das heiße Thermalwasser auf mich prasseln. Lange haltet man die Hitze aber nicht aus und so spaziere ich wieder zurück zum Evason um mich im kühlen Pool abzukühlen bevor es zum Frühstück geht. Ich lasse die letzten Tage Revue passieren und bin einfach nur unendlich dankbar so eine wahnsinnig tolle Reise machen zu können. Wenn ihr einen Trip durch Jordanien plant, empfehle ich euch in die Hotels am Toten Meer und hier in Ma’In mehr in Hotels zu investieren und überhaupt hierher zu kommen. Während ihr in Amman und Petra den ganzen Tag unterwegs ist, ist man meistens so k.o, dass man nicht mehr viel vom Hotel mitbekommt und kaum dass man den Kopf aufs Kissen gelegt hat tief und fest schläft. Aber hier macht das Hotel sehr viel aus, deswegen kann man hier ruhig mehr ausgeben finde ich.

Jetzt sitze ich hier auf meinem kleinen Balkon, von der Terrasse höre ich immer wieder das Rattern einer Shisha und der Wasserfall rauscht beruhigend im Hintergrund. Irgendwo in meinem Kopf taucht der halb gepackte Koffer auf, ich schiebe den Gedanken schnell zur Seite und schieße die Augen und genieße. Eigentlich will ich gar nicht zurück nach Österreich. Und ich bin mir sicher: mit Jordanien und dem nahen Osten bin ich noch lange nicht fertig.

EN: The rattling of a sisha, the smell of tobacco, the chirr of the grills and Nasr is telling the story of 1001 nights under the stars of the night. I can’t imagine a better ending for my trip through Jordan. My suitcase is half packed and slowly I realize that tomorrow my #jordanadventure ends.

Save the best for the end – I think this phrase describes my trip through jordan very well. I enjoyed every second at every place – I saw busy Amman, the unbelievable landscape of the death sea, but Ma’In was something totally different. It’s a oasis in a valley next to the death sea, a paradise like in a movie or a dream and I felt like Jasmin from Aladin in person.

Thermal water and hot watersprings, colorful flowers and a lot of green – after  a few days in the „death“ landcape without a spot of gras, this area was something really special. It’s really quiet and from the first second I felt really relaxed and layed-back. Altough I had some relaxing days at the beach of death sea, the calmness in Ma’In was something different in my opinion.

Evason Ma’In Hot Springs & Six Senses Spa Hotel

Maybe its because of the cozy beds of the Evason Ma’In Hot Springs & Six Senses Spa Hotel, the only hotel in the valley, were we stayed. Or its the dark wood, the oriantal flair with all the candles, the staff which knows what I want even before I know it or the actually the water. I guess its a mix of all those things. The drive to Ma’In is nothing for sensible bellies, but when you arrive, you forget everything else and all your worries are gone. Long story short: it’s my idea of an 1001-nights-oasis packed in one hotel.

Acutally I’m not a morning person, but here I get up at sunrise and startto discover the valley before breakfast. I walk through the little jungle, pause for a minute and take a deep breath. I hear the waterfalls and after a few minutes I’m in the „public pool“, directly under the waterfalls. The water steams and carefully I’m dipping a toe in the water. The water is unbelievable hot! Anyways I’m climbing up the slippery stairs and for a few seconds I’m standing under the waterfall. I can’t stand this hot water for a long time and so I’m walking back to teh Evason too chill down in the pool before meeting the other bloggers for breakfast.

I’m looking back at the last days and I’m so thankful to had the chance to make such a great journey. When you’re planing a trip through Jordan, I totally recommend to invest more money in hotels at the death sea and in Ma’In, if you decide to spend some days (you should!). While in Amman and Petra you’re just sleeping at the hotel and, like me, you’re so tired after exploring and discovering all day long, that you fell asleep as soon as you are in bed, it doesn’t really matter how nice the hotel is. But in Ma’In and the Death Sea you’re spending more time in the hotel and so it’s worth to invest more here.

Now I’m sitting on my little balcony, I’m still hearing the waterfalls and the sisha downstairs. Somewhere in my head the thought about the half-packed suitcase appears and I’m moving it a way, close my eyes and take another deep breath. I don’t want to leave Jordan and I’m sure: I will come back.
