Nach vier Nächten in einem 10-mixed dorm im Hostel in Hong Kong, lies mich ein Gedanke nicht mehr los: eine ausgiebige, heiße Dusche. Nicht dass ich mich im Hostel nicht geduscht hätte (Igitt!), aber so richtig sauber fühlte ich mich trotzdem nicht. Deswegen konnte ich es kaum erwarten ins Hotel umzuziehen. Genauer gesagt ins Dorsett Kwun Tong, etwas außerhalb des Stadtzentrums. Nach 5 Tagen Sightseeing störte es mich überhaupt nicht mal die Randbezirke Hong Kongs kennenzulernen und so spazierte ich gleich nach dem Check-In mal durch die Gegend.
Die Lage
Das Hotel liegt ganz in der Nähe des alten Flughafens. Meine Eltern waren während ihrer Hochzeitsreise auch in Hong Kong und während der Reiseplanung erzählte mir mein Papa, dass damals die Flieger quer zwischen den Hochhäusern durchfliegen mussten um langen zu können! Der neue Flughafen liegt circa eine Stunde mit der U-Bahn und dem Airportexpress entfernt. 8 Minuten geht man von der U-Bahn-Station Kwun Tong (Kwun Tong Line) zum Hotel. Auf dem Weg dorthin fand ich endlich, was ich seit Tagen gesucht hatte: ein Victoria’s Secret Shop. Und 1000 andere Geschäfte im Kwun Tong Plaza Einkaufszentrum. Obwohl ich mir vorgenommen hatte keine größeren Ausgaben mehr zu machen, konnte ich bei Victoria’s Secret einfach nicht widerstehen.
Es widerspricht meiner Reisephilosophie nur im Zimmer zu hocken (egal wie schön es ist) und nichts von so einer eindrucksvollen Stadt wie Hong Kong zu sehen. Nachdem ich mich also kurz mal ausgerastet hatte, lange geduscht hatte und Fotos für den Blog vom Hotel gemacht habe, zog es mich trotzdem wieder raus in die Stadt. Die U-Bahn-Fahrt ins Zentrum dauerte circa 25 Minuten, was mir (nach unserer zentralen Lage vom Hostel davor) schon recht lange vorkam. Nachdem ich den Ladies Market nur kurz gesehen hatten (der Hunger war größer als die Entdeckerlust), zog es mich wieder dorthin. Zum Glück fiel mir ein, dass ich noch gar keine Souvenirs geshoppt hatte und so fand ich dort praktischerweise auch gleich nette Mitbringsel für Freunde und Familie. Da ja Chinese New Year war, kaufte ich auch gleich Red Pockets, um die Souvenirs damit zu verschenken. Chinesischer geht es gar nicht!
Als ich mich dann wieder auf den Rückweg ins Hotel machte, meldete sich dann doch irgendwann der Hunger und gleich neben der U-Bahn-Station Kwun Tong entdeckte ich einen Shop in dem Sushi zum mitnehmen verkauft wurde. Rund um die Vitrinen drängten sich Einheimische – ein gutes Zeichen! Also drängelte ich mich mit und war erstmals komplett überfordert. Bei uns bekommt man meistens Lachs-, Butterfisch-, Tunfisch- und Krabbensushi, sowie Gurken-, Avocado- und Lachsmaki wenn es um Sushi To-Go geht. Hier war die Auswahl gigantisch und ich wusste bei 80% der Fälle nicht was das jetzt genau ist. Aber probieren geht bekanntlich über studieren und so schaute ich was die anderen so nehmen und entschied mich für das selbe. Im Hotel angekommen konnte ich es kaum erwarten es zu kosten. Bis auf das grüne Zeug (weiß jemand was das ist?), hat alles wirklich lecker geschmeckt.
Das Zimmer
Und dann konnte ich es kaum erwarten mich ins kuschlig weiche Bett zu legen und mal richtig zu entspannen. In einem 10er Dorm kommt man kaum zum Schlafen. Immer schnarcht jemand, geht ein und aus und die Betten sind auch alles andere als gemütlich. Also zelebrierte ich das Schlafengehen so richtig. Mit Gesichtsmaske, dem flauschigen Hotelbademantel und der neuesten Folge von Pretty Little Liars dank wirklich schnellem WLAN machte ich es mir in dem riesigen Bett bequem und genoss den Abend alleine. Und glaubt mir: alleine sein kann so herrlich sein!
Frühstück
Ich schlief so tief und fest, dass ich das Frühstück am nächsten Tag fast verschlafen hätte und kam erst eine halbe Stunde vor Ende in den Speisesaal. Obwohl die Kellnerin ein wenig ruppig war und wohl an diesem Morgen nicht so schön ausschlafen konnte wie ich, bekam ich gleich meinen English Breakfast Tea und auch beim Buffet war noch alles da. Pancakes, Scrambled Eggs, frisches Obst und viel chinesisches Zeug. Ich probiere gern neue Dinge aus, aber Meeresfrüchte zum Frühstück ist mir dann doch zu viel, da ich generell nicht so der Frühstückstyp bin.
Das Hotel
Nach dem doch sehr gehetzten Frühstück habe ich mal das Hotel von oben bis unten erkundet. Leider war der Outdoor-Pool geschlossen, schließlich war es Winter. Das Hotel ist sehr modern und stylisch. Für Chinese New Year war alles rot geschmückt und außer der Frühstückskellnerin waren alle sehr hilfsbereit – meinen Koffer musste ich keine Sekunde selbst tragen. So lässt sich Hong Kong genießen, findet ihr nicht auch?
Die Zeit im schönen Hotel verging schneller als erwartet und schon stand ich wieder an der Rezeption zum Check-out, bevor ich zum Flughafen fuhr um zurück nach Wien zu fliegen. Dennoch war es perfekt um vor dem Langstreckenflug mal richtig zu entspannen und die Zeit in Hong Kong in Ruhe ausklingen zu lassen.

EN: After four days in a 10-mixed dorm in a Hostel in Hong Kong, I only had one wish: a long, hot shower. Please don’t think I didn’t had a shower while the days in the hostel (ugh!), but I did not feel very clean. So I couldn’t wait to pack my bags and drive to the Dorsett Kwun Tong Hotel, a bit outside the center of Hong Kong. After five days of sightseeing it was okay to stay in the fringe area, who knows – maybe I explore something really cool! So after my check-in, I started discovering the surrounding area.
The location
The hotel is located near the old airport. My parents were also in Hong Kong while their honeymoon and while I was planning this trip, my dad told me, that in former times the airplanes flew between the the buildings to land! To get to the new airport you have to drive about an hour to another seperate island with the MTR and Airport Express. In about 5 minutes you get from the hotel to the MTR station Kwun Tong. On my way to the MTR I found the one thing I was looking for the past 5 days: the Victoria’s Secret store! And 1000000 other cool shops in the Kwun Tong Plaza shopping mall. Although I promised myself not to spend much more money in the last days, I had to buy something at Victoria’s Secret.
It’s against my travelphilosophy to stay in the hotel (no matter how cozy and pretty it is) when I’m in such a cool city like Hong Kong. So after checking in, I took a loooong shower, made some pictures for this blogpost and then started exploring the city again. The MTR takes about 25 minutes to the center of Hong Kong (which felt really long after the central location of our hostel). In the first days I just had a quick look at the Ladies Market (the hunger was bigger than the passion to explore) and so I decided to visit it again. Lucky me, I realized that I totally forgot to buy souvenirs! So I started a little shopping tour and because of chinese new year, I also bought some red pockets. On my way back to the Dorsett Kwun Tong I got hungry and I found a little sushi-to-go-shop next to the MTR station Kwun Tong. There were a lot of natives in the shop – a good sign! So I tried to get to the fridges and then I was totally overstrained. Here in Austria you can decide between salmon-, tuna-, gunnel- and crabsushi, cucumber-, avocado- and salmonmaki when you buy sushi-to-go. Here the choice was much bigger and in 80% I had no clue what the things are. But the proof of the pudding is in the eating and so I took a look at the others and then took the same. When I arrived in my hotel room I was so excited to try it! And besides from this green thing (does anybody knows what this is?), everything was delicious!
The hotel room
The next thing I was really excited for was the cozy and fluffy kingsize-bed. A 10-mixed dorm is not the right place to relax or sleep well. There is always somebody who snores and the bunkbeds are also not comfortable. So I made a pumper evening. With facemask, the cozy bathrobe and the newest episode of Pretty Little Liars (thanks for the fantastic WIFI!) I made myself comfortable on the bed and enjoyed the evening alone. And believe me: being alone can be so fine!
Breakfast
I slept so good, that I nearly overslept the breakfast. Half an hour before it ended I came in the dining room. I think the waitress did not had such a good morning than I had, because she seemed a bit angry. But I got my English Breakfast Tea very fast and the buffet looked also great. Pancakes, Scrambled Eggs, fresh fruits and a lot of chinese breakfast things. I love trying new things, but seafood for breakfast is too much for me.
The hotel
After this really fast breakfast I explored the whole hotel. Unfortunately the outdoor-pool was closed, but that was okay, because it was winter. The whole hotel was really modern and fancy. Everything was decorated in red for chinese new year and besides of the waitress at the breakfast, everybody was really friendly and helpful – perfect to enjoy Hong Kong!
The time was running faster then I thought and so I was standing again at the reception for my check-out to get to the airport to fly back to Vienna. Spending the last night before a long-distance-night-flight in such a cozy hotel is perfect to relax and it’s the perfect ending for a great time in Hong Kong!
