Traveldiary Rome (Video)

Vielleicht habt ihr es auch Social Media mitbekommen, dass ich vor kurzem in Rom unterwegs war. Nach einer gefühlten Ewigkeit habe ich schon beim Aussteigen aus dem Flugzeug bemerkt wie sehr ich Italien vermisst habe. Die Luft war gleich ganz anders und sofort fühlte ich mich irgendwie wieder wie mit 17, als ich einen ganzen Sommer in der Toskana verbrachte.

Tag 1:

Ankuft und Cappuccino Doc

Gleich nach der Ankunft ging es erst mal zu Antonio ins Cappuccino Doc, dem Café in dem Julia (die Freundin die ich besuchte) fast jeden Tag geht, um einen Kaffee zu trinken. Wenn ihr wie ich keine Milch vertragt oder euch aus anderen Gründen entscheidet keine tierischen Produkte zu essen und trotzdem wirklich leckeren Kaffee wollt, dann seid ihr hier genau richtig. Ich bin an diesem Tag schon um 4 Uhr morgens aufgestanden und der Capuccino freddo mit Mandelmilch und Nutella war dann genau das richtige.

Publitzer Hotel

Weiter ging es dann erstmals ins Hotel. Ich hatte und unvorstellbare Glück im Publitzer Hotel ein Zimmer im 6. Stock zu bekommen. Ich hatte einen Balkon, der einmal rund um das Hotel ging und ich hatte eine fantastische Aussicht über die Stadt. Da es etwas außerhalb des Zentrums bei der Metro-Station Marconi liegt, war es auch schön ruhig und im 5. Stock gab es auf dem Balkon einen Whirlpool, den ich noch am gleichen Tag testen musste. Nach kurzem Frischmachen packte ich meine Sieben Sachen und begann Rom zu entdecken. Übrigens: wie immer werde ich auch eine ausführliche Hotelreview zum Hotel schreiben, mehr dazu in der nächsten Woche!

Vatikan – Vatikanisches Museum, Sixtinische Kapelle und Petersdom

Weil Julia schon sehr oft im Vatikan war und noch Besuch von zu Hause bekommen hatte, machte ich mich also allein auf dem Weg. Schon von zu Hause aus hatte ich Tickets für das Vatikanische Museum vor reserviert und musste mich nur mehr kurz anstellen und kam dann ganz schnell ins Museum. Ihr könnt das Ticket hier reservieren, und ich empfehle es euch, denn die Schlange kann wirklich wirklich lange sein. Das Museum selbst ist riesen groß und man kommt hier in die Sixtinische Kapelle. Überall war die Schweizer Garde postiert und die Herren waren wirklich richtig nett und charmant. Aber in der Sixtinischen Kapelle wurde mir dann doch etwas anders zumute. Durch einen Lautsprecher schrie einer von ihnen immer wieder „Silenzio“ und „Don’t stop, keep moving“. Die Leute drängten in die Kapelle und eigentlich war mir dass dann doch zu viel Stress und so verlies ich sie schnell wieder.

Wieder an der frischen Luft setze ich mich in den Garten des Museums und genoss mit einem Obstsalat die Sonne, bevor ich mich dann auf den Weg zum Petersdom machte. Wie zu erwarten, war auch hier richtig viel los und ich war schnell umgeben von einer deutschen Touristengruppe. In den Petersdom kommt man übrigens gratis, nur für die Kuppel muss man 4 Euro zahlen. Es ist wirklich eindrucksvoll aber Platzangst sollte man vielleicht nicht haben.

Irgendwo auf dem Weg zwischen Vatikanischen Museum und Petersdom beschloss das Objektiv meiner Kamera nicht mehr richtig zu funktionieren. Ihr könnt euch vorstellen wie verzweifelt ich war. Ich lief die Straßen kreuz und quer um ein Elektronikgeschäft zu finden, aber es war hoffnungslos. Schlussendlich verirrte ich mich auch noch und mein Handy wollte sich einfach nicht mit dem WLAN von McDonalds verbinden. Zu viel Drama für meinen Geschmack. Deswegen ging ich erst mal shoppen um meine Nerven zu beruhigen und schon ging es mir besser. Zum Glück sind die Kameras auf den Handys heutzutage wirklich super und so machte ich das beste aus der Sache, stieg in die Ubahn und fuhr zum Colosseum.

Colosseum und Forum Romanum

Auch hier kann ich euch nur empfehlen ein Ticket online vorzubestellen. Das habe ich leider versäumt und so musste ich mich circa 20 Minuten anstellen. Als Student bekommt man in Rom fast überall einen Rabatt und so zahle ich nur 7,50 Euro für Colloseum und Forum Romanum. Ich ging unauffällig einer Gruppenführung nach und hörte so alles was der Guide so über das Colloseum erzählte, ziemlich praktisch 😉

Trastevere

Nach einer kurzen Erholpause im Hotel Whirlpool mit Blick über Rom, machte ich mich mit Julia schließlich auf den Weg nach Trastevere. Hier reiht sich eine Bar nach der anderen und es ist perfekt um Abends etwas trinken zu gehen. Wir beschlossen Pizza essen zu gehen und landeten schlussendlich im Carlo Menta in der Via della Lungaretta 101, wo man tatsächlich Pizza für knapp 3 Euro bekommt! Und sie war so gut, dass ich gar nicht aufhören konnte zu schwärmen. Wir spazierten durch das Viertel und nach einiger Zeit schaffte ich es nicht mehr gegen die Müdigkeit anzukämpfen und machte mich auf den Weg ins Hotel und schlief sofort wie ein Baby ein.

Tag 2:

Am nächsten Tag checkte ich aus dem Hotel aus und machte mich auf den Weg zu Julias WG, wo ich die nächsten 2 Tage verbrachte. Lustige Geschichte: als ich bei der Ubahn Marconi einsteigen wollte, fand ich plötzlich mein Ticket nicht mehr. Es blieb mir nichts anderes übrig als ein neues zu kaufen. Für 48 Stunden kostet es 12 € und ich steckte einen 10 € Schein in den Automaten. Nach einer Weile realisierte ich, dass dieser Automat aber nur Münzen akzeptierte, meinen Schein aber ganz einfach nicht mehr hergeben wollte. Ich fragte eine Stationsaufsicht, der aber kaum Englisch konnte. Mit Händen und Füsse erklärte er mir, dass mein Geld weg ist. Ich war ziemlich sauer, auch weil ich wusste dass es meine Schuld war, ich hätte einfach aufmerksamer sein sollen. Ihr müsst wissen, dass in Rom gerade überall an fast jeder Ubahn-Station Militär mit Maschinengewehren stationiert ist. Ziemlich furchteinflössend wie ich finde. Plötzlich holte die Stationsaufsicht die beiden Soldaten dieser Station her und erklärte der Soldatin mein Problem. Ihr könnt euch denken wie die Leute geschaut haben. Die Soldatin war richtig nett und hilfsbereit und half mir schließlich ein Formular auszufüllen, durch das ich mein Geld jetzt demnächst wieder überwiesen bekomme. Ich war ihr so dankbar und seit dem hatte ich viel weniger Angst vor den Soldaten dort. Mein altes Ticket habe ich übrigens wenig später zerknüllt am Boden meiner Tasche gefunden. Nach diesem recht aufregendem Morgen ging die Entdeckungstour durch Rom dann weiter.

Spanische Treppe, Trevi Brunnen und Pantheon

Von Postkarten kannte ich die Spanische Treppe, aber in echt war ich dann doch etwas enttäuscht. Leider wurde die Treppe gerade renoviert und sah etwas anders aus, als auf den Bildern. Aber ich kann das von meiner Bucketlist abhacken.

Kennt ihr den Film Popstar auf Umwegen mit Hilary Duff? Als ich 12 oder 13 Jahre alt war, war ich verrückt nach diesem Film. Deswegen musste ich einfach zum Trevi Brunnen um 3 Münzen hinein zu werfen. Die erste Münze bringt Glück, die zweite Münze steht dafür einen Römer kennen zu lernen und die dritte um sich wieder von ihm scheiden zu lassen und erfolgreich und glücklich zu werden. Das mit dem Römer kennen lernen hatte ich schon vor einigen Jahren abgehackt, aber trotzdem kann ein bisschen Glück doch nie schaden, oder? Ich zwängte mich durch die Touristen und warf 3 Münzen über meinen Rücken und wünschte mir etwas.

Kurz vor Schluss ging ich noch schnell ins Phanteon und musste mich so gar nicht anstellen. Am nächsten Tag kamen wir zufällig nochmal vorbei und die Schlange war ewig lang. Spät hingehen zahlt sich also aus!

Beer Company und Gilda

An diesem Tag machten wir extra nicht zu viel, weil wir ab Abend noch weggehen wollten und nicht komplett ko sein wollten. Abends ging es dann zuerst mit Julias Mitbewohnern in die Beer Company. Eigentlich mag ich Bier ja gar nicht, aber wenn man schon mal dort ist muss man ja fast eines trinken. Die Auswahl war riesen groß, also wenn ihr gerne Bier trinkt, dann seid ihr hier genau richtig! Anschließend ging es auf eine Party ins Gilda, einem Club in der Innenstadt.

Tag 3:

Il buco di Roma, Orangengärten und Rosengarten

Ein vielleicht nicht so bekannter Tourist-Spot, der aber wirklich wirklich einen Besuch wert war, ist das  il buco di Roma am Aventin Hügel, dem südlichsten der sieben Hügel von Rom. Die Schlange war gar nicht lang und wenn man dann endlich an der Reihe ist, schaut man durch ein kleines Schlüsselloch und sieht zuerst einen langen Gang und am Ende des Ganges in hellem Licht den Petersdom. Es ist wirklich schwierig ein gutes Foto zu machen, weil es einfach zu hell ist, aber mir hat es wirklich gefallen. Wie ihr sehen könnt bin ich daran kläglich gescheitert. Anschließend spazierten wir noch durch die Orangengärten einige Meter weiter und genossen den Ausblick über die Stadt.

Wirklich schön war es auch im Rosengarten, auch am Aventin Hügel. Dort gibt es an die 1.100 Rosensorten und man hat auch hier einen tollen Blick über die Stadt.

Magnum Pleasure Store

Von einigen Freunden hörte ich im Vorfeld immer wieder eines: „Du musst unbedingt in den Magnum Pleasure Store gehen!“ Obwohl es kein tradtionell italienisches Eis ist, war ich wirklich begeistert. Ich entschied mich für ein Schokoladeneis, umhüllt von Milchschokolade mit Himbeere, Krokant und Haselnüsse als Topping und darauf noch mehr weisse Schokolade. Ihr glaubt gar nicht wie lecker das war!

Villa Borghese

Ein weiterer Punkt auf meiner To-Do Liste für Rom war die Villa Borghese. Man kann dort so schön entspannen und hat einen tollen Blick über die Stadt. Die Leute borgen sich Räder oder Golfcarts aus und wir saßen einfach nur auf einer Parkbank und beobachteten die Menschen. Der Park ist wirklich riesen groß und nach dem Forgehen am Abend vorher, war das genau das richtige für diesen Tag.

1. Mai

Zufällig war es der 1. Mai und das bedeutet in Rom vor allem eines: das Konzert am S. Giovanni Platz. Nachdem wir von allen Seiten gehört hatten, wie groß und toll dieses Konzert ist, ließen wir uns dann doch überreden hinzugehen. Es war schon recht spät, aber die erste Band war wirklich toll. Anschließend kamen etwas eigenartige DJs und viele Leute gingen schon nach Hause, aber die Stimmung war trotzdem toll und ich habe versucht sie für mein Video einzufangen. Nachdem wir an diesem Tag knapp 17 Kilometer gegangen waren, beschlossen wir dann aber doch nach Hause zu gehen um uns mal auszurasten.

Tag 4:

Mein letzter Tag war angebrochen und ich war schon recht traurig, denn Rom hat mir wahnsinnig gut gefallen. Wir spazierten erst nochmal zu Antonio um einen Café zu trinken und machten uns dann auf den Weg nach Trastevere, weil ich es unbedingt nochmal bei Tag sehen wollte. Bei Nacht hat es mir dann aber doch besser gefallen, weil der Trubel einfach fehlte.

Engelsburg und Spaziergang an der Tiber

Ich spazierte den Tiber entlang bis zur Engelsburg und schon allein der Weg dorthin war so schön, dass ich euch nur raten kann unbedingt den Fluss entlang zu spazieren. Die Engelsburg liegt ziemlich genau unter dem Petersdom und so spazierte ich danach gleich nochmal durch die kleinen Gassen rund um den Vatikan, weil es dort einfach so schön ist.

I Caruso

Ich musste noch eine Gelateria von Lorenzo’s Eisliste probieren und so suchte ich i Caruso und war schlichtweg begeistert. Der Eisverkäufer war zuerst etwas genervt, aber nachdem ich auf italienisch bestellte, schenkte er mir gleich eine Extrakugel. Ach diese Italiener 😉

Und dann war meine Rom-Reise eigentlich schon vorbei. Viel zu schnell wie ich finde, aber das ist immer so wenn man sich amüsiert. Anschließend möchte ich euch noch mein Video von der Reise zeigen, dass diesmal leider etwas kurz ausgefallen ist, aber ich hoffe es gefällt euch trotzdem!

Maybe you noticed it on Social Media that I was in Rome recently. After edges I felt it immediately when I landed: I really missed italy. The air was so different and I felt again like 17, when I spend a whole summer in Toscany.

Day 1:

Arrival and Cappuccino Doc

After arriving in Rome, Julia (the friend I visited) and I went to Antonio, the Cappuccino Doc. Julia is here at least once a day I think and so we had to go there. When you don’t tolenant diary products or don’t want to eat them, but you love coffee as much as I do, then this is the perfect spot for you. I woke up on this day at 4 am and the cappuccino freddo with almond milk and nutella was perfect for this moment. And yes, it was okay to drink such a beverage in Rome, because it was before lunch. Publitzer Hotel

The next stop was the hotel. I stayed at the Publitzer Hotel and it was great. The hotel is located a bit outside the city center but from my room at the 6th floor I had an amazing view over the city and my balcony was so huge. On the 5th floor was a whirl pool, also with view over the city. You can imagine how excited and happy I was! After refreshing myself I packed my bag for the day and started exploring Rome! As usual I will also post a hotel review from the hotel!

Vatican – Vatican museum, sistine chapel and St. Peter’s basilica

I started at the Vatican with the vatican museum. A few days earlier in Austria I bought the tickets already online and so everything went really fast and I was in the museum. The museum is huge and with the ticket you can go into the sistine chapel. While the swiss guards where really friendly everywhere in and outside of the museum, they scared me a little bit in the sistense chapel. One of them was shouting all the time „silentio“ and „keep moving“ and there were so many people in the chapel, that I felt a bit anxious and left the chapel really fast.

Back at the fresh air, I made a little lunchbreak with a fruitsalad in the garden of the museum and enjoyed the sun, before I left to see the St. Peter’s basilica. Of course there were thousands of tourists here and suddenly I was in the middle of a germany touristgroup. By the way: the entrance to the basilica is for free, you only have to pay 4€ when you want to go to the dome. It is really impressive, but you should not go there if you’re claustrophobic.

Somewhere on the way between vatican museum and St. Peter’s basilica, the lense of my camera broke. You can’t imagine how upset and angry I war. I tried to find an electronic shop, to buy a new lense, but I couldn’t find anything. The wifi from McDonalds didn’t want to connect with my phone and that was way too much drama for my first day in Rome. So I decided to calm down and do a little shopping tour to relaxe. I decided to make the best of this situation – luckily the camera on my phone is pretty good, and took the metro to my next stop: Colosseum.

Colosseum and Forum Romanum

I can just say it again: buy your ticket online in advance. I missed it here and had to wait about 20 minutes in the line. As a student I got a discount nearly everywhere and so I only payed 7,50 € for the entrance for the colosseum and Forum Romanum. I walked inconspiciuos next to a guide how explained everything about the colosseum to an american tourist group and learned a lot.

Trastevere

After a little break in the whirlpool of the Publitzer hotel with amazing view over rome, Julia and I went to Trastevere for dinner. In this area you find one bar after the next one – it’s perfect for drinks after a long day. We decided to have Pizza for dinner and went to Carlo Menta at Via della Lungaretta 101, where you can get an amazing pizza for just 3 €! The pizza was so good, that I could not stop talking about it. We explored Trastevere a little bit and after a while I got really tired and we went back home. In the hotel I immediately felt asleep after this long day.

Day 2:

At the next day I checked out of the Publitzer and wanted to take the metro to Julias flat. Funny story: when I wanted to pass the turnstile at Marconi metro station, I couldn’t find my ticket. So I had to buy a new one. In Rome you pay 12 € for 48 hours and so I insert a 10 € note in the machine. After a while I realized, that this machine accepted only coins and my 10 € were gone forever. I asked a ticket inspector, but his english war really bad. He explained with gestures, that my money is gone now. I was so upset at the machine and also at myself, because it really was my own fault, I should have read the machine before inserting money. You have to know, that this days soldiers with machine guns are watching out at nearly every metro station in rome. A bit scary in my opinion. Suddenly the ticket inspector signaled the soldiers to come over and help us. He explained a female soldier what happened and she was so nice and helpful! Together we filled in a form and hopefully I will get my money back the next weeks. I was so thankful and after that I was way less scared of the soldiers in rome. By the way: a little later I found my old ticket srunched up somewhere in my bag. After this exciting moring I started exploring Rome again.

Spanish steps and trevi fountain

I knew the spanish steps from postcards, but in real I was a bit disappointed. The steps get refurbished right now and looked totally different.

Do you know the Lizzie McGuire Movie? When I was 12 or 13 I was obsessed with it. Because of that I had to throw 3 coins in the trevi fountain. Once I heared, that three coins mean: One to have luck, a second to meet a handsome roman and the third one to divorce him and get happy and already met this roman a few years ago, but a little bit of luck is always a good idea! So I forced between tourists and through 3 coins over my shoulder and made wish.

Beer Company and Gilda

We had not that long sightseeing tour on this day, because we wanted to have a night out in this night. First we went to the Beer Company with Julia’s flatmates. Actually I don’t like beer that much, but when I’m there once I had to try one. The selection is huge, so if you like beer, this is the right spot for you. After that we went to a party at Gilda, a club in the city center.

Day 3:

Il buco di Roma, orange tree garden and rose garden

A not that much known tourist-spot, but really worth i a visit is the buco di Roma at the aventin-hill. There were not that much people on that moring and when it’s your turn, you take a look through a little keyhole, where you see a alley and then at the end of it the St. Peter’s basilica in a really bright light. It’s difficult to take a good picture, I totally failed at it, as you can see. Afterwards we walked to the orange tree garden, only a few meters away from the keyhole and took a look over the rome.

When already at the aventin-hill, we also visited the rose garden. Here you can find about 1.100 different roses and you here you also have a great view over the city.

Magnum Pleasure Store

When I was telling my friends, that I’m traveling to Rome, everyone told me to go to the Magnum Pleasure Store. Although it’s not traditional italian icecream, I was totally into it. I took a cholocate icecream, dipped in milk chocolate, with raspberries, brittles and hazlenuts as toppings and at the end more white chocolate. You can trust me: it was delicious!

Villa Borghese

Another point on my bucket list for Rome was the Villa Borghese. It’s perfect to relaxe and you have a great view over the city. The people rent bikes or golfcarts and we sat on a park bench and watched them and enjoyed the sunny weather. The park is huge and after our night out the day before, this was a perfect relaxing afternoon.

First of may

By chance this day was also the first of may. In rome this means one thing: the huge concert at the San Giovanni square. We heart from a lot of people how cool this is and so we decided to go there too. We were a little late, it started already at the afternoon. The first band we heart was really good and the atmosphere was amazing. Everybody was dancing and had a great time. After this band some DJs started playing their music and a lot of people went home. On this day we walked about 17 kilometers and we were so tired, that we also went home really quickly and felt in our beds.

Day4:

It was already my last day in rome and I was really sad to leave. First we walked to Antonio to drink a last café at the Cappuccino Doc and then we visited Trastevere again, because I wanted to see it while daytime. Now I can say, that like it more at the evening, because I missed hustle and bustle.

Castel Sant’Angelo and walking along the river

I walked along the tiber till I got to the Castel Sant‘ Angelo and it was so nice, that I can only recommend you to do that too. The Castel Sant‘ Angelo is located in the same road as the St. Peters Basilica and because I enjoyed the area around vatican so much, I had to explore the streets a second time.

I Caruso

I had one last gelateria on my list, Lorenzo gave me before I travelled to rome. So I went to i Caruso and ate the best ice-cream in rome on my last day. It was really really really good! I ordered in italian and the ice-cream men was in such a good mood because of that, that he gave me another scoop for free.

And then my time was already over. Way too fast, in my opinion, but it’s always like this when I have fun. Now I want to show you the video from this trip and although it’s a little bit shorter then the last ones, I hope you enjoy watching it!
